About Our Program
Since its launch in 2014, the Social Impact Internship Fund (SIIF) has played a crucial role in nurturing the growth and development of students by providing financial support for those engaging in low-paid or unpaid social impact internships. These experiences allow them to contribute meaningfully to society while applying the business skills honed at MSB. The SIIF has been instrumental in ensuring that financial constraints do not impede students from pursuing internships that they are passionate about and that embody the principles of cura personalis.
Why Contribute?
SIIF efforts have been recognized as contributing to MSB's ranking as the #3 business school for non-profit careers by The Princeton Review. However, despite our successes, the SIIF scholarships are currently lower than the average compensation for all MSB summer internships. This lack of funds will limit the number of students who can receive financial support and the amount we can give to each recipient. In light of this, we are asking for your support by investing in the professional futures of our students. Your contribution to SIIF would help foster a generation of business leaders who are not only skilled but also socially conscious. Your donation could significantly impact our students’ ability to apply their business acumen to social challenges during their summer internships. The Social Impact Internship Fund is a financial commitment to the professional and personal achievements of MBAs in unpaid or low-paying social impact summer internships, helping to foster a vibrant, socially-minded, and enriched student community full of future impact-oriented business leaders.
Our Impact
"SIIF funding allowed me to spend the summer conducting research for my startup idea and that research proved crucial in helping me flesh out the idea further. I'm very grateful to SIIF for its support!" – Andres Joaquin Brillembourg (MBA ‘24) “SIIF is one of the most critical instruments available to MSB. It allows students to contribute to organizations where an extra set of hands, equipped with an MBA skill set, can make a measurable difference. My family and I are very grateful for the support, financially and otherwise, that we have received from Net Impact, SIIF, and the many alumni, students, and supporters that donate to the fund.” –David Soldner (MBA ‘22), The Conservation Fund “I encourage the continuation of [SIIF]...to support not only students seeking work in impact fields, but also the deserving organizations who need MBA interns, and McDonough’s position as a leader supporting impact-focused MBAs.” –Leigh Harwood (MBA ‘22), The Resource Foundation “I worked for an affordable housing developer and worked on affordable senior housing projects in Ward 7 of Washington DC. The role is unpaid and the fund that I received from SIIF is the only source of income during that time. It really helped me in fulfilling my internship responsibilities which involved a lot of traveling within the DMV area. It also paid my rent and groceries.” – Anthony Fang (MBA ‘25)
