Ronald J. Lignelli Band Endowed Fund
Founded in 1922, the Georgetown University Band is a core student- and staff-driven musical organization on the Hilltop. Since its inception, the Band has performed at thousands of Athletic events, public concerts (as the Wind Ensemble or Concert Band in earlier times), and other functions inside and outside of Washington, DC.
In 2022, in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Georgetown University Band, several alumni committed to raise $100,000 to establish permanent support for instrument maintenance, purchases, and similar needs. The Fund is in honor of the retired Administrative Director of the Department of Performing Arts, Ronald “Ron” Lignelli, who served the Georgetown community for 37 years. Ron (pictured below with Georgetown’s President Jack DeGioia and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed) has inspired countless Band alumni in their artistic pursuits and maintains close connections with the community. With your help, we can continue Ron’s legacy at Georgetown in perpetuity and inspire the next generation of Band members.
Over the last two years, we have raised approximately $44,000. Thank you to those that have contributed and we are hoping to close the gap by the end of this calendar year!
While much has changed over the last 100 years, much has remained the same. The love of music and Hoya pride have united the Band as an alumni family for a century.

Your support will go directly to the Ronald J. Lignelli Band Endowed Fund, which is an inaugural fund to establish long-term programmatic band support at Georgetown University. The Fund will establish permanent support for instrument maintenance, purchases, and similar needs of our students, and is named in honor of the retired Administrative Director of the Department of Performing Arts, Ronald “Ron” Lignelli, who served the Georgetown community for 37 years.

Why are donations necessary?
Donations to the Ronald J. Lignelli Band Endowed Fund will go directly to support our Hoyas in the Georgetown Pep Band. Once the Fund reaches $100,000, it will continue to help with instrument maintenance for our students in perpetuity. The Georgetown Pep Band is a core student-run organization, dedicated to their craft and performing at Georgetown University athletic events.

The Georgetown Pep Band is easily the most passionate, spirited group of people I have ever come across on the Hilltop. The band brings together the best parts of sports and the excitement they bring, as well as community and music to create an organization that is truly special. Our job is to spread Hoya spirit through music, and we take that role very seriously. Whether it’s at football, soccer, or our amazing basketball programs’ games, the band is always there willing to use (and even lose) their voices to support the Hoyas and create an amazing environment. Being in band has given me countless memories and so many of my best friends, and it has truly transformed my college experience. I could never fully express how grateful I am to have been apart of it during my time at Georgetown.

Pep band has been my absolute favorite activity at Georgetown. I love supporting Georgetown athletics, playing fun music, and spending time with everyone! Playing quints at games is so enjoyable, and I love the percussion section. I’ve met so many of my closest friends through pep band!

I found my way to the Georgetown Pep Band freshman year and never looked back. This talented community welcomed me with open arms and gave me a space that felt like home on the Hilltop. Some of my best memories at Georgetown have been with the band! I have met incredible friends through the program who have been an integral part of my college experience. I am so grateful for all of the opportunities and experiences the pep band has afforded me. Traveling to Mohegan Sun and New York City to support the women's and men's Big East Basketball tournaments has been such a fun and rewarding experience that I can only get by being in the pep band. The excitement and spirit the band brings to these tournaments, and all the other sporting events, is truly unmatched. Joining pep band has been one of the greatest decisions I've made because I've gotten to be a part of this amazing musical and spirited community!
