For Potential Project Owners
+
Hoyas Give is intended to raise awareness and
funding for
important Georgetown causes
that
are consistent with the university's mission to educate people to be reflective
life-long
learners, to be responsible and active participants in civic life, and to live
generously in
service to others. Projects must be aligned with the university and focused on
fundraising
for an approved Georgetown project or program.
Important note: Crowdfunding projects that involve fundraising for physical items
(benches,
trees, etc), online auctions, events, or to benefit non-Georgetown University
philanthropic
organizations, will not be accepted.
+
Projects are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Reviews are conducted twice monthly on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. You will receive a decision within 10 business days after the next upcoming review date. Not all projects will be approved, but applicants may
resubmit applications if they are not accepted. Before applying, you will need to
identify a
sponsor from the Georgetown University Office of Advancement (OA) to assist and guide
you in
the process.

This is your primary job as project owner!
Crowdfunding is
intentionally distinct from
other, more institutional fundraising efforts. Success will require individuals, like
you,
who spread the word through their personal networks.
+
Crowdfunding works best for projects and
campaigns with clear and
specific goals,
rather
than for general, unrestricted fundraising. The amount of money you raise will depend on
the
scope of the project, the size of your network and personal contacts, as well as the
amount
of effort devoted to the project. It is best to set modest, attainable and realistic
goals—and transcend them. Your donors will be inspired to support a project if it
reflects
success and momentum.
OA will provide approved project owners with a guide on best practices.
+
Plan
for your project to
require 10-12 weeks
of
focused, intense work before and after the campaign. The project owner will need to
remain
actively engaged throughout the life cycle of the campaign (from application to close of
the
campaign).
